Wow!  If you know nothing else, you now know what a lousy photographer I was on Saturday.  What you can't see from these blurry images of two of my students in Strategic Happiness at Work at San Francisco States program in Core Strengths Coaching, is how much I learned from each of them this past Saturday about how to be happy at work.

What follows are a few quick tips from THEM:

1. Decide what you can control and what you have no control over.  Change what you can (how and whether to express your values, the ways in which you will communicate, the quality of work you want to do)

2. Decide how you will demonstrate respect for others (regardless of how they seem to respect you).

3. Learn something every day and apply it.

4. Work within the four areas of fulfillment at work: physical (how to make yourself more physically resilient at work), intellectual (how to challenge yourself), emotional (finding affirmation for the work you do), and spiritual (finding meaning in work).

5. Change small things and one thing at a time.

6. Seek balance in time and intensity at work with time with family.

7. When work seems least fulfilling and it seems unwise to leave, find something you love outside of work.

We spent three and a half weeks reading, considering, coaching, and talking together about the ways in which each of eight adults wanted to create more positive work environments for themselves.  It was a great experience for me!
